WEST MANHEIM TWP, Pa- A firefighter, who was responding to a house fire in York County on Saturday morning, has died.
Veteran firefighter Earl Shoemaker, 68, was driving a fire truck to the scene, when it's believed he suffered a medical emergency and died. Shoemaker was a volunteer with the Eagle Fire Company for more than 40-years.
Shoemaker's official cause of death has not yet been released, however it's believed the medical condition played a significant role.
"Pretty rough right now and we have to meet with all of them and decide to call a debriefing team in," said Chief Jan Cromer.
West Manheim Township Police are handling the investigation.
The fire happened in a duplex along Pumping Station Road in West Manheim Township, York County.
The cause remains under investigation. A fundraiser for the family that lost everything will be held Sunday at the Hanover Soccer Fields from 1:00 - 3:00pm. Organizers are asking for donations of all kinds.
