Raleigh, NC – Police say a North Carolina woman was shot and killed this weekend by her boyfriend.

Kimberly Richardson, 25, was six months pregnant and against the odds… her baby survived.

Friends say she already had a name picked out for her baby girl… Lacey.

Paige Bragdon remembers her friend as,  “She was really, really happy. She was really, really happy. I sent her a text the day before she went to go find out the sex of the baby and just told her how happy I was for her and how excited I am.”

But Richardson won’t ever meet her little girl.

Police say her boyfriend, Daniel Steele, shot her Saturday night near Triangle Town Center.

She died but doctor’s were able to save her baby.

Friends say Richardson was from Youngsville and was working at Zales at the mall near where she was killed.

WRAL spoke with neighbors of her boyfriend who say he was a security guard at the mall.

In a 911 call from the shooting… Richardson herself tells dispatchers quote, “He shot me.”  She was able to tell the dispatcher her exact location,  “Behind Party City.”

Officers believe Richardson’s strength while talking with 911 in her dying moments ultimately saved her baby’s life.

Police arrested Steele shortly after at his home just a few miles away.

Steele is being charged with first-degree murder.

No other information was released about the baby.

A GiveForward account has been opened in Richardson’s honor.
