LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa.– A New Providence woman is facing charges after she was found to be under the influence of drugs while her 17-month-old child was naked and alone in the woods for hours.

Angela Benedict, 34, is facing endangering the welfare of children charges for her role in the incident.

On July 8 around 10:45 p.m., police were notified of a missing 17-month-old child near the 900 block of Lancaster Pike in Providence Township.

Police were contacted by a neighbor who said that Benedict did not have her child and didn’t know where the child was.

A neighbor also told police that he saw Benedict grab the child by the legs and sling her over her shoulder while walking into the woods and muttering to herself.

Around 11:00 p.m., police began to search the wooded area for the child, while Benedict told police that her child was fine and with “Lisa.”

However, “Lisa” was standing a few feet away and did not have the child.

According to the criminal complaint, Benedict told police that she had left the child beside an oak tree and beside a limestone boulder.

Around 12:35 a.m. on July 9, police located the 17-month old child crying and sitting in approximately an inch of water in drainage ditch.

The child was discovered naked and only wearing socks and suffered minor cuts, scrapes, and bug bites. The child was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for further evaluation.

Police determined that Benedict was under the influence of drugs, and had left the child alone in the woods for at least 3.5 hours.

Now, Benedict will face charges.
