HARRISBURG, Pa.-- On Tuesday morning, Pennsylvania lawmakers will get an update on the implementation of the Medical Marijuana Program.

The program was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf in April 2016.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the program is designed to help Pennsylvania patients suffering from serious medical conditions. The department says studies show medical marijuana can help alleviate pain and improve quality of life for ill patients.

To obtain medical marijuana, patients must be under the continuous care of a physician who is registered with the Department of Health, obtain a signed certificate by their doctor and apply for an identification card.

Officials project the program will be fully implemented by 2018. The informational meeting is scheduled for 10 am Tuesday at the Capitol Building.
