Four time cancer survivor Liz Rivera is just one person raising money for research to find a cure.

“I just want to scream and cheer and say ‘I’m a survivor,” Rivera said

For the next 24 hours, more than 1000 people will be walking or running towards making that goal happen.

“Seventy-nine registered teams make up those participants and this year our goal is $377,500,” said Brian McIntyre, the co-chair of the event.

All of the money raised will go to the American Cancer Society.

For many of the walkers, it’s a cause that hits close to home.

“I was diagnosed about a year ago; February 2013. The day before my 30th birthday, I found a lump in my breast,” Amanda Musser said.

Now cancer free, Amanda Musser is a proud participant of the Survivor Lap.

“People are supportive, but they don’t really understand what you’re going through and as soon as I walked through the gates last year and saw the survivors here, I didn’t feel alone anymore and I knew everything was going to be okay,” Musser said.

“You look behind you at the survivor lap, and you see the faces, and this year it’s even bigger. It’s just powerful; its amazing,” Rivera added.

Luminaries lit up the track as a silent lap was taken to honor those who lost their battle to cancer; reminding participants why they are here.

“I have a three-year-old little girl and I hope that when she is my age she won’t have to worry about stuff like this,” Musser said.

“My hope is one year we will not have to do this anymore; because cancer will be over,” added participant Elizabeth Wine.

Lebanon County has raised more than six million dollars for the cause over the past 20 years.

Participants will be walking through the night, into Saturday afternoon.
