A fast-moving fire tore through a home on East Chestnut Street on Lancaster City Saturday afternoon.

Flames broke out in the basement of the home around 3:00 and quickly spread next door.

“We seen it before anybody got here. We panicked and we ran in there,” said Marlon Malpica, who was working across the street when the flames broke out.

Malpica said he ran across the street to see if anyone was inside.

“I pulled a old lady out from the first floor. I told her, ‘You gotta get out,'” he said.

Lancaster City Fire Chief Tim Gregg said no one was hurt, but the battle was a tough one for crews.

“I think part of the problem here was there was some extension in through the walls. Basement fire traveled put through interior walls. So that’s why you see smoke, fire damage up on the third floor,” Gregg said.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
