Helping families and kids waiting for adoption find futures… that’s the goal of the Annual Permanency Conference in Lancaster hosted by the Department of Public Welfare.

The 2-day conference kicked-off on Wednesday at the Lancaster Host Resort– serving as a forum to train and ready child welfare professionals as well as prospective foster or adoptive families.

During brunch, families and children waiting for adoption were matched to meet and learn more about each other.

“We are always looking for resource families– common resource families are families that step forward and become involved in the foster care system to learn that there are kids who deserve to be in a loving home and we want the public to know that there’s always a need here in Pennsylvania,” Statewide Adoption & Permanency Network Director Carrie Keiser said.

This is the 22nd year for the conference. The event also unveiled a second part of SWAN’s “Meet The Kids” campaign which brings awareness to adopting older children in Pennsylvania.

SWAN is both a broad-based cooperative effort and a centralized information and facilitation service funded and overseen by the PA Department of Public Welfare. The program helps children in our state find permanent homes.
