…A Heat Advisory is in effect today from NOON to 8PM for our entire area due to excessive heat and humidity combining to make staying cool more difficult.  Exercise caution if spending time outdoors today…

Heat Advisory

WINDING DOWN:  We’re working toward the end of the week and the end of this rough heat wave is in sight.  Today will be nearly a repeat performance of Thursday, with stuffy hot air and heat index values reaching the low to middle 100s.  Expect plenty of sunshine with only a few clouds and one or two storms dotting the sky toward the evening hours.  We’re topping out in the middle 90s today.  Tonight, it’s another stuffy, stagnant night with lows in the middle 70s.

TIPS:  This is the last day that you’ll have to worry about the excessive heat.  Now more than ever are these heat tips important to follow.  Remember to take it easy and stay hydrated with water over the next few days, especially if you work or play outdoors.  Avoid the hottest part of the day for outdoor work if you can, from 10AM-3PM.  If you have to be outdoors, wear loose fitting, light colored clothing.  Take plenty of breaks and find shade or AC if possible.  Don’t forget the kids, pets, and elderly, who often don’t tolerate the heat as well.  The pool is a great place too, just don’t forget the sunscreen.

HEAT ENDS:  We’re still hot Saturday with highs reaching 90° for one final day.  However, a cold front approaches through the day, bringing the chance for some strong to severe storms during the afternoon and evening.  The models have pulled the main energy farther north and have backed off on the strength of the storm system, but parts of our area remain under a slight risk for severe weather.  The change in this pattern puts isolated wind gusts and hail into the mix as your main severe weather threats in any storms that do form on Saturday.

Severe Outlook

The rain threat ends for Sunday, with cooler and drier air sliding in.  Expect a party cloudy day with temps in the middle 80s and humidity values back in check.  Enjoy!

BEACH:  The storm system bringing us the heat relief and storm chances will be sliding off the Atlantic coast as well.  Expect the chance for some showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday along the shore.  We’ll see the best chances late Saturday into early Sunday.  Beach plans are still a go.  Water temps are in the middle to upper 70s and UV index values are high to very high.  Waves are averaging 2-4 feet.  Have a great trip!

NEXT WEEK:  It looks like another storm system will approach for Tuesday into Wednesday.  A few storms are possible Monday, with the best chance for rain on Tuesday.  Highs will hover in the low to middle 80s next week.  Rain tapers early Wednesday with a dry looking Thursday.  We’re hovering near seasonal averages.

Happy Friday!  Have a spectacular weekend!
