PHILADELPHIA, Pa.– In the wake of the release of some 27,000 emails by the website Wikileaks, some changes have been made for the upcoming Democratic National Convention.

It gets underway Monday in Philadelphia, and Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is no longer scheduled to speak at or preside over the event. That decision was reached by party officials on Saturday after the emails surfaced, raising questions about the committee’s impartiality during the Democratic primary. The emails appeared to show a bias against former candidate Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

The DNC Rules Committee rescinded Wasserman Schultz’s position as Convention Chairwoman, and have now named Rep. Marcia Fudge, (D) Ohio, as permanent Chair of the Convention. She will gavel each session to order and will gavel each session closed, a role that had been expected to be held by Wasserman Schultz. A democrat familiar with the decision said it was done in hopes of preventing chaos on the convention floor among Sanders supporters.
