YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A crash involving a bus carrying a York County high school football team and SUV early Saturday morning leaves one woman dead.

Jasmine McCarter, 23, of York was driving an SUV that reportedly crashed into a bus head-on early Saturday morning.

McCarter was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and was ejected from her vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred just before 1:00 a.m. on Route 30 Eastbound at mile marker 251.4  according to the York County Coroner’s office. The bus was carrying the Eastern York high school football team, 3 coaches, and a trainer who were on their way home from a game in Martinsburg, Pa.

Hellam Fire Chief told the York Daily Record that the SUV was travelling West on Route 30 when it suddenly crossed the median and struck the bus travelling Eastbound.

No students were injured, but 2 coaches and the bus driver were transported to the hospital according to a statement released by the school district.

The coaches have since been released from the hospital.

Eastern York School District released this statement:

“Today at approximately 1:00 A.M., a bus transporting the Eastern York School District varsity football team and coaches was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Route 30.  The bus is owned and operated by Krapf Bus Company with whom the district contacts transportation services.  The team was returning from their game at Martinsburg High School in the Spring Cove School District.

In addition to the driver, there were 21 students, 3 coaches and an athletic trainer on the bus.  None of the students were injured.  The driver and two of the coaches were transported to local hospitals.  The coaches have been released.

Our number one priority is the safety of our students and staff.  Although no students were physically injured during the accident, the district will have a crisis team in place on Monday at Eastern York High School for any students, parents or staff who may need assistance.

We thank the emergency responders and district staff for immediately responding and taking care of our students and staff.  The district will continue to cooperate with Hellam Township Police Department as they continue to investigate the accident.

The Eastern York Board of School Directors, Administration, Faculty and Staff extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased driver who collided with the bus.”

Hellam Township Police Department are investigating the crash.
