York looked a little trashy on Saturday. But in this case, it’s not a bad thing.
Several groups came together to make a point about all the litter in the city. They used letters that are six-feet tall and spell out “change.”
And “change” can be found at the intersection of South George Street and Rathton Road. People spent a few hours Saturday filling those letters with litter picked up throughout York.
This idea came from a similar project in Louisiana. The hope is this will inspire people to care for the city more.
“The Litter Letter Project is collecting the trash in the community. We went to local parks, we went to local streets– streets in the city, streets in the county– and we did litter pick-up and the sad part was, we were really able to pick up way more trash than what we needed. So the next time you throw something down on the ground remember it’s your community, it’s your home,” Kelley Gibson said, who is the Director of Communications and Engagement for the Cultural Alliance of York.
