A warning this evening from the FDA that a popular antibiotic used to treat common infections, may carry serious heart risks. The report says the drug Zithromax, also called a Z-pak, may cause abnormal changes in the heart’s electrical activity. Those changes may lead to a potentially deadly irregular heart rhythm. Patients at risk include those with low blood levels of magnesium or potassium, and heart rates that are slower than normal.
