Weekly updates: COVID-19 cases, deaths, hospitalizations in Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) releases updated numbers for COVID-19 in the state each week.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Starting June 30, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) now releases data on a weekly basis regarding the status of COVID-19 across the state. MDH will now update data each Thursday at 11 a.m. CT. Each data category now has its own specific page with deeper breakdowns based on location, age, gender and other factors.

State vaccination data is also available on a separate MDH dashboard.

Here's the latest data for Minnesota as of Thursday, Dec. 1.  


  • Total positive COVID-19 cases (including reinfections): 1,713,190


  • Total COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota: 13,716


  • Total COVID-19 hospitalizations: 76,920
  • Cases requiring ICU treatment: 13,177


  • Minnesotans with one dose: 4,001,915 (71.9% of total population)
  • Minnesotans with completed series: 3,762,272 (67.6%)
  • Minnesotans boosted/up-to-date: 1,051,340 (18.9%)


In late February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new guidelines for masking based on county community levels. The latest CDC data and map can be viewed here.

Health care facilities also make decisions based on a separate CDC metric that measures community transmission. That data can be found on this page.


The state of Minnesota operates several community testing locations. Find a full list here. Five COVID testing sites in Brooklyn Park, MSP Airport, Moorhead, St. Paul-Midway Duluth were converted to test-to-treat locations. At these five sites, higher-risk Minnesotans who test positive for COVID are eligible to receive a prescription for the antiviral drug Paxlovid.
