JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's been one year since the separation of former conjoined twins Conner and Carter Mirabal. In honor, the family threw a special party.

Family, friends, and the medical team at Wolfson Children's Hospital were all on hand to celebrate Saturday. The Mirabal twins were successfully separated after being joined at the abdomen at birth.

It's been a lengthy recovery. Carter finally went home Friday after spending 17 months in the hospital.

His parents are overjoyed to have the family together in time for mother's day weekend.

"We wanted this for a long time and we're glad it finally happened. It's the best mother's day present ever," said the twins' mother Michelle Brantley.

"It kind of helped me out on the mother's day gift thing. We finally got him home and now we can have our whole family together and start as one. It's awesome. I couldn't be more excited," said their father Bryan Mirabal

As for any special mothers day plans, Brantley says she just wants to stay home as a family.
