Teenager shot and killed in York City; police investigating

The boy had been walking outside when he was shot, police said.

UPDATE 9:00 p.m. - The York County Coroner has identified the victim as 16 year-old Tyree Smart of the 100 block of Neater Street. 

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: 

A 16-year-old died on Saturday afternoon after he was shot in York City, police said.

On March 27, shortly before 3 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West Newton Avenue for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found a teenage boy with gunshot wounds and despite their efforts to save him, the boy succumbed to his injuries and died soon after.

The boy had been walking outside when he was shot, according to the county coroner's release.
