BEREA, Ohio — The City of Berea is hosting a food drive on Friday, April 3, at the city’s recreation center on Front Street.
In the morning from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., drivers can drop off donations in the recreation center’s parking lot.
Workers will then unload the donations from your car and take the items to be sorted and bagged.
Then, on Tuesday, April 7, those in need of assistance will be able to drive through and receive a bag of groceries.
If you are dropping off or picking up donations, you can stay in your vehicle the whole time.
Suggested items to donate are canned items such as:
- canned or pouched chicken or tuna,
- mac and cheese (boxes or single cups),
- rice or noodle side dishes,
- canned pasta or stew,
- peanut butter,
- shelf stable milk,
- fruit cups, shelf stable pudding or gelatin cups, applesauce (individual cups or jars), chips, crackers, cookies, protein/power bars and pre-packaged treats (such as cupcakes or donuts).
To stop the spread of germs, workers handling the donations will be wearing gloves and non-surgical masks.
“Our purpose is simply to get the food into anyone’s hands who wants it,” said Berea Safety Director Barbara Jones. “No pre-qualifications, no questions, no bureaucracy.”
