The KARE Ear hears you at the State Fair: 'What are you proud of?'

Photojournalist Ben Garvin continues his annual tradition of asking fair-goers for their thoughts.

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — You may have noticed a guy wandering around the Minnesota State Fairgrounds inside a giant ear.

No, it's not a mascot for a new brand of cotton swabs.

Inside the ear is KARE 11 photojournalist Ben Garvin, continuing a State Fair tradition where he asks fair-goers their thoughts, and the KARE ear "hears" the responses.

Over the last few years, Ben has received some of the most heartfelt responses when asking the question, "What are you proud of?"

Here are a few of the things that the KARE ear heard you saying this year, during its annual appearance at the Minnesota State Fair:

"I'm proud of being able to graduate nursing school after having a traumatic brain injury."

"That I lost 180 pounds."

"I'm proud that I'm able to wear my hijab every day."

"Just the way I was made, by God."

"I'm proud of Minnesota being a very diverse state."

"Eating a bucket of cheese curds for breakfast."

"Being adopted."

"I bought my first house."

"I'm proud that I work in a totally male-dominated industry, commercial roofing, and I'm a leader in my company."

"I'm proud that I never give up."

Listen to the full range of responses, from the emotional to the humorous, in Ben's annual video above.
