HARRISBURG, DAUPIN COUNTY -
Hundreds of Pennsylvania tavern owners rallying at the State Capitol on Tuesday to expend small games of chance licenses to the 12,00 taverns across the state.
The PA Tavern Association leading the push to pass a bill that would help small businesses make money and save jobs.
"At the rate we're going right now, we're not gonna be able to be open and the 2500 people working for us are gonna have to find employment somewhere else," said Greg Rand.
Taverns would get to keep 50% from the games. The bill mandates 20% go to local charities like fire companies and little league teams. The remaining 30% would go directly to the state to raise about $100 million annually to help with budget costs.
"This is drawings and raffles and punch boards. It's not a casino, slots or roulette tables. Nothing like that," said Amy Christie of the PA Tavern Association.
Legislation to extend small games of chance has been introduced in both the house and senate.
