Styer died Thursday in Afghanistan after a roadside bomb attack. He was serving his second tour overseas. Friends say he was first deployed to Iraq.

The stands at Friday's homecoming football game were filled with heavy hearts. Before kickoff, the crowd observed a moment of silence in honor of Styer.

"He was really silly and was always joking around. He always just wanted to make people laugh," said Joann Trimby, friend.

"He always made everybody laugh and he was just an amazing person, it just wasn't his time," said Elizabeth Stein, friend.

In high school, Styer played baseball and was on the wrestling team.

Grief counselors were on hand at the high school to help students cope with the loss. They will also be available next week.
