Gloria Zerbe has lived in Camp Hill more than forty years. She and her neighbors along the 2400 block of Dickinson Avenue are in the middle of a sidewalk and curb crackdown.
"Our complaint is that they choose a school route and we weren't included in that," said Zerbe.
The controversy started when borough officials sent out a letter enforcing ordinance 657; requiring property owners to repair their sidewalks and curbs. Nicole Chace says people living in school zones were told the borough would pay for their repairs out of the "Safe Routes to School Program." Last week she was informed her house is not in a school zone, even though Hoover Elementary is across the street.
"I consider this the school zone, because when school is in session, this becomes a one way street, there's crossing guards at either end and the parents park here," said Chace.
Chace says she's facing thousands in repair bills. When our calls were not returned, Fox43 went to the borough office looking for the assistant borough manager. We were told she left the building and didn't want to talk with us. Chace and her neighbors say it does not surprise them, they plan to voice their concerns at the borough council's next meeting, scheduled for July 8th.
