"I think just being able to do it, I'm out of my chair, I'm underneath the water, I'm swimming, I'm breathing," said Shelly White, Cornwall.

White joined other physically disabled divers including Al Kovach, a former Navy SEAL left paralyzed after a parachute accident.

"That sense of being independent and free and your underwater you can't really hear anything it's very tranquil," said Kovach.

"You may not get that everyday or every minute, so it just feels good that you're in the water," said Maria Hoge, Pittsburgh.

Cody Unser organized the dive, she's the daughter of two-time Indy 500 Champion Al Unser, Junior. Paralyzed herself, she travels across the country introducing disabled individuals to scuba diving.

"It gives a feeling that you could do anything, so it's so gratifying," said Unser.
