Marie Ford has worked for the South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP) for the past 20 years. Now, the mother of four joins more than 60 people being laid off, because of the budget stalemate.
"I know why it's happening, I don't understand why it had to happen, no. I think it's completely unnecessary for it to delay this long, I think it's criminal," said Ford.
Ten social service programs have been discontinued, pending the budget outcome. SCCAP Executive Director Megan Shreve is also being laid off. She says community support has helped to keep the Adams and Franklin County Homeless Shelters open, but says this day should not have come.
"We have these amazing community responses just astounding and then on the other side you have staff that your letting go, it's really tough," said Shreve.
The budget impasse is also taking a toll on the government in Adams County. Commissioner Glenn Snyder says if the budget is not decided by the new year, the county will be millions of dollars in the hole.
"If they don't get a budget or get something resolved at the end of the year were going to be four million dollars short," said Snyder.
One proposal has county employees on a four day work week, meanwhile Ford says she will file for unemployment on Monday, after her kids go to school.
