YORK COUNTY, PA -
A local woman is packing her bags for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Debra Eberly is traveling to Washington, D.C. for a special mission at the White House.
The interior designer from York County is one of a hundred volunteers that will decorate the historic house for the holidays.
"I think everybody has a bucket list and I think personally and professionally this was just one of the things I wanted to do," said Eberly.
Debra first learned about being a volunteer decorator at the White House while watching a television show. She immediately knew she was up for the job.
Eberly sent in her application year after year and was turned down. This year, her luck changed. She received an invitation to decorate and to dine with Michelle Obama.
"This is the ninth year I've applied, so I'm not quite sure if they took pity on me," said Eberly.
Eberly's determination and persistence paid off. Now, she is gearing up for the trip. She leaves for the nation's capitol on Thanksgiving.
"I don't know if I'll be making bows or just fluffing trees or laying snow, I have no clue, so it is going to be an experience," said Eberly.
Eberly will be in Washington for 5 days. She says she is looking forward to sharing her experience with friends and family.
