WEST MANCHESTER TWP, YORK COUNTY -
It was a story that stirred panic in many West Manchester Mall shoppers- a woman stopping to give a man directions was pulled from her car, robbed, beaten, and stabbed several times in an abandoned parking lot last Wednesday afternoon, and her attacker ran towards the mall.
Now, West Manchester Twp Police say it was just that: a story.
After finding inconsistencies in the woman's account of the assault and robbery, and interviewing witnesses and examining her injuries, police interviewed her upon her release from the hospital. The woman, 52, of northern York County, admitted she made a false report to police and that her injuries were self-inflicted.
Police say the woman has expressed remorse for the effect her actions had on the community. The case is under review by the District Attorney's Office.
