YORK -
Property owners in york county will see no tax increase for the first time in six years. County Commissioners have unveiled the 2010 budget proposal.
Though taxes will not go up, the $167 million spending plan calls for the elimination of 44 positions. All but a dozen of those positions are currently vacant.
The rest will be part of a planned reorganization of jobs at the county's Youth Development Center.
Commissioners say every department in the county government is making sacrifices.
"That was due to everybody pulling together, everybody felt a little bit of hurt throughout the county through all the offices and elected officials offices.. and they pulled together to find ways to do things differently to save them money and we commend them for that," says Commissioner Steve Chronister.
Commissioners say the uncertainty with jobs at Harley-Davidson is another reason they could not allow taxes to be raised.
The proposed budget is $2 million less than the current spending plan.
