Vacant Positions Eliminated in York as Part of Budget Proposal
YORK - Good news for people living in York, property taxes will unlikely increase. That annoucement as York Mayor John Brenner outlines his proposal for next year's budget.

In lieu of increased taxes, the proposal calls for a 50 cent increase in trash and sewer collection. Also, parking and street sweeping violations will go up.

However, several positions will be eliminated, including six police positions, two fire services and two public works. Those positions are vacant, with the exception of one public works employee, who will be laid off. That employee was with the city for nearly 20 years.

The price tag comes in at $37 million, which is about $950,000 more than last year. Mayor Brenner says the jump is because of the rising cost of health care costs, salary increases and debt service on new fire equipment.

City Council will review the proposal, and pass it by December 31st.
