Vietnam veterans still share the scars of war, fighting in combat in a foreign land, and turning home rarely receiving praise for their service.

"Back in the times of the Vietnam War, when it was ending and was a very politically unpopular war, there was a lot of resentment by some people politically," said Bill Smith, Vietnam Veteran.

Long overdue, a special memorial was unveiled at the Memorial Courtyard in Carlisle.

"It's something, again we should have had 30 or 40 years ago, it's better late than never," said Robert Hinkle, Vietnam Veteran.

"One way of showing the Vietnam Veterans of Cumberland County that we appreciate what it was that they did at that time, was very difficult for them to do and some of those made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives," said Smith.

Featuring two Huey Medevac helicopters transporting the wounded on either side of the Field Cross. A somber message, as many took photo's of the stone. A small momento for these great soldiers finally recognized for their place in history.

"My children, my grandchildren, can walk when I'm dead around here and look at it, it means a lot, it means a lot," said Hinkle.
