YORK TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY -
Surgeons in York County are getting new training on an old procedure, thanks to new technology.
Surgeons were testing their skills at repairing an aneurysm in the aorta, at Apple Hill Medical Center, on Wednesday. They're putting stents in a simulator, that gives the doctors 3 levels of difficulty for practice.
Participants say it's good to get this kind of training, before they perform this surgery on a person.
"You have to be trained to do this, so there's a certain technique. you can't start doing it right away. you have to be able to do the simple stuff of vascular surgery, before you do something as complex as this," says Dr. Clifford Lynd, Vascular Surgeon at York Hospital.
Doctor Lynd says there are only a couple of these simulators around the country, that travel around for this training.
