A Lancaster County girl is fighting to recover in the hospital after she was hit by a car while walking to school October 27. Denise Strawser's parents have spent every day by her hospital bed at Hershey Medical Center supporting their daughter. The 14 year old is still in critical condition two weeks later.

While her mother, Jackie, says she can't imagine not being there for her daughter, she admits it's coming at a cost. "You find out real quick how much gas is everyday. And just how much it costs for one person to eat here...it's unreal."

Several local businesses have set up donation jars in Columbia. To help the family, you can stop at the Columbia M&T Bank, Turkey Hills, Hinkles, or Little's. "This is something that happens to other people," Jackie says. "It happens to other families, and then suddenly you are that family. And you realize just how much every dollar in the jar can help."

The person driving the car who hit Denise is not yet facing any charges.
