Also in the spending plan, property taxes will be raised for people living in the city. In total, the average property owner will be asked to pay an extra $3.50 a week.

Mayor Gray says, "I am sympathetic with people under the current economic conditions it is difficult to ask for any more money.. we're going to be cutting some of those services and asking for more money and still running in a deficit."

The proposed budget calls for a one year salary freeze for all city employees and a four year pay freeze for the Mayor. City Council will now look at the plan. It's first budget hearing will be held Monday, November 30, at 6:00 p.m. at the Southern Market Center.
