A town hall meeting in York County about health care reform was so crowded, organizers decided at the last minute to hold two meetings Wednesday night because of fire code regulations.
Representative Eugene DePasquale (D, 95th District) held the meeting along with Rep. Josh Shapiro (D, Montgomery County). Shapiro is part of a team assembled by President Obama to listen and address concerns about a national health care overhaul.
About 500 people showed up for the Spring Garden Township meeting. At times, many rose to their feet, shouting their views. The crowd was split about in half. People like Dottie Moquin are against an overhaul, "I don't want the government making decisions about my physicians, about my life." Others, like nurse Lashuan Bethea support health care reform. "I think there are misconceptions that the government is trying to control health care. When really they are just giving people a choice."
While not everyone was able to personally speak their concerns, they were all able to fill out a form. Shapiro will take those forms and other input from the meeting to Washington DC.
