YORK CITY -
Fifteen buildings are destroyed in the 700 block of Chestnut Street, and as many as 100 people are without their homes after fire burns the north side of the block.
The blaze broke out around 3PM Wednesday and fire crews are expect to be on the scene well into Thursday morning.
The fire chief says the fire spread quickly from 703 Chestnut Street to the other row homes because of a lack of fire walls. Three firefighters were injured we are told they have been treated and released from the hospital. There were no other serious injuries reported.
At the same time the Chestnut Street fire was burning, other fire fighters were battling a junkyard fire with massive smoke just ten blocks away. Consolidated Scrap Resources on Princess Street caught on fire shortly before 2PM. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.
Investigators are trying to figure out the cause of both fires.
