When describing child birth, most mothers don't use the words comfortable or pleasant. There is a program out there that has women summoning serenity during labor. It is called HypnoBirthing and it centers on deep relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques.

Jennifer Purnell of Harrisburg says the birth of her third child is something she will never forget. It was not your typical delivery, instead it was calm, quick, and pain free.

"When I was in the hospital that night, I could hear other moms screaming giving birth and I wanted to run down the halls and yell, no, it doesn't have to be like this," said Purnell.

Jaynie Beard has been teaching HypnoBirthing to local parents for about 3 years.

"You don't go into a funky trance-like state where you don't know what is going on, that is not how it works," said Beard.

Beard says the program is all about deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, and breathing methods. She says it works for most women who give it a try.

"The majority of moms have more comfortable births, they do have some discomfort, but they don't have the excruciating pain typically associated with child birth," said Beard.
