The Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center receives a significant contribution to go toward the funding of a new children's hospital. The Hershey Company donated a check for $1 million today at the hospital. The new children's hospital would be five stories tall, 153,000 square feet and stand alone on the medical center campus connected to the main hospital by a walkway. The million dollar check has helped the children's hospital campaign to reach $62 million out of a $65 million goal needed to build the facility.

"The facility will make it so we're able to deliver excellent care in a facility that meets the needs of children and their family. We'll be able to include families in the care of the child and provide the latest in technology and space available for children when they're severely ill and need to be admitted to the hospital," said Chair of Pediatrics and Medical Director Dr. Craig Hillemeier.

The final project is estimated to cost around $207 million and will feature state-of-the-art design while continuing the Hershey Medical Center's commitment to family-centered care.
