The 19 year old was pumping gas at a station in Lower Allen Township, when police say static electricity caused a spark that ended in an explosion.

Chief Frank Williamson goes onto say, "perfect storm, if you want to call it. A lot of things had to go the right way to make this a very wrong incident."

The investigation shows Byers may have been following safety precautions while filling up his tank.

Police have no indication that he was talking on his cell phone, smoking or doing anything that may have been dangerous at the time.

Police say there are safety precautions that can be taken to lower the chances of a similar accident.

These precautions include turning off your engine and avoiding smoking or talking on cell phones.
