YORK COUNTY, PA -
Local bars and restaurants were packed with people celebrating Thanksgiving eve. It is one of the biggest party nights of the year, but also one of the most dangerous.
All along 2nd Street in Harrisburg, the bars were filled with people home to celebrate the holiday.
"Nobody has to work tomorrow and everybody gets to eat a lot of food and just sit around and get fat, be happy, and watch football," said Ryan Knaby of Enola.
At Sawyer's, it is all hands on deck. The bar is stocked and the taps are ready. The manager is expecting a huge turnout, much like years past.
"It rivals New Year's Eve for sure and I think it is busier just because everybody is home and it is the night to see friends and stuff before they sit down with family," said Stacey Semuta, General Manager at Sawyer's.
Sawyer's, along with 5 other nearby establishments are offering a special, all you can drink for three hours for $15. With all that drinking, police hope people make sure to designate a sober driver.
"We are not against people who drink, we are against people who drink and get behind the wheel and put everyone at risk on the roadways," said Wayne Harper, Director of the Center for Traffic Safety.
DUI checkpoints and roving patrols were set up across the area. They will be happening throughout the holiday season.
