LOWER PAXTON TOWNSHIP -
A phone call on Christmas Day to a CVS store sent Dauphin County police scrambling to find a woman who said she had just killed her nine month old baby.
Police in Lower Paxton Township later found out, the phone call was all part of an elaborate hoax. Now the FBI is involved, and it's tracked down the suspect who called from Michigan.
But for now the township has to pay for all of the overtime and resources used to investigate the prank.
The police department has been criticized for responding to the incident.
Officers say they have to take these calls seriously.
"There are nuts out there that would do that. There are nuts out there that would shoot a child and call somebody and say they did it and ask for help in cleaning up. Those kinds of things do happen. We have to take it seriously. We have to investigate it," says Lt. Gary Seefeldt.
The investigation revealed that similiar phone calls were made throughout the United States on Christmas day.
