DILLSBURG, YORK COUNTY—
A Dillsburg voluntary coach rounds up his 35 players twice a week to show them they can achieve what they put their mind to.The Dillsburg Diamond Backs are a group of mentally and physically challenged children aged between 5 and 23 who want to be a part of a sports team that coach Mike Junkin says the world tells them they are not good enough for, a baseball team.
Coach Junkin has the team play against other teams in the area, where there are no scores, just fun.
Junkin says you can achieve anything you want to achieve with a little bit of effort, and these children need to be able to feel that.
"I want them to feel accepted, I want them to feel a sense of accomplishment, and I think with this patch of grass, they get that," said Coach Mike Junkin.
The coach does not have any challenged children himself, he said he is just doing this because he feels there is a need in the community for these children to feel accepted.
If you want to try and start your own team, coach Junkin says you can contact him for more details by going to this website:
