Man Charged With Beating His Girlfriend With Baseball Bat
GORDONVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man has been charged with using a baseball bat to beat his girlfriend while she slept.

State police say he choked her unconscious and trapped her in a bedroom for hours by threatening to abuse her again if she tried to escape from their home in Gordonville, a tiny village with a strong Amish presence an hour's drive west of Philadelphia.

Trooper Samuel Laureto says the woman was hit in the head and arm Saturday morning and suffered a broken elbow in an unprovoked attack.

Police say she escaped when the man left and she went to a neighbor's house to call for help.

She told police the man smoked crack cocaine while assaulting her.

The man was arrested the next day at a relative's home. He's charged with assault and unlawful restraint.
