SHELOCTA, Pa. (AP) — One hunter died in a fall from a tree stand, and five others were injured in four accidental shootings on the first day of Pennsylvania's two-week rifle deer season.
The Armstrong County Coroner says 30-year-old Dustin Manning, of Pleasant Gap, Centre County, died of head injuries when he fell from a makeshift ladder he was using as a tree stand in Plumcreek Township. That's about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says five people were wounded in four shooting accidents, but none caused life-threatening injuries.
A 10-year-old girl and her father were wounded when a dropped gun fired; three other men were injured Monday in Clearfield, Lackawanna and Westmoreland counties.
About 750,000 people are expected to hunt this season.
