West Manchester Township, York County -
First responders in York County have a new tool to help people in their greatest time of need. West York Ambulance has now added an Advanced Life Support Unit. The ALS Unit can respond to the most severe of calls and provide hospital-like services, right on the scene.
West York Ambulance runs over three thousands calls a year, providing emergency help for people living in West York and West Manchester Township in York County. Now, they have a new tool that should make them better able to help the most urgent of cases.
"The first few moments are very important to the survival of that patient," said West York Ambulance ALS Coordinator Chris Deibler.
To help those chances of survival, West York Ambulance has added an Advanced Life Support Unit. The unit and trained paramedics can now perform advanced first aid, things like administering medicines and Iv's, right on scene.
"It's like bringing the hospital out to you. We can start administering the drugs that are necessary that would have to wait in to York Hospital or Memorial Hospital to do," said West York Ambulance President Denny Reigart.
Before this, West York Ambulance worked with York Hospital to provide the ALS service. The unit was staffed, in this building, 12 hours a day. Now, paramedics are standing by 24/7.
"It actually enhances our capabilities for our patients," said Deibler.
"It's something that we felt West York and West Manchester Township deserved, 24 hour coverage," Reigart said.
It's 24 hour coverage for an area that sees more than three thousand calls a year. Over a thousand of those calls require advanced life support. Now, patients can rest assured, they are getting the best service in the quickest fashion.
"This advance level care allows us to bring more to our patients and improve their chance of survival in severe conditions," Deibler said.
West York now joins White Rose Ambulance and Yoe Ambulance as full service providers in York County. The best part, it doesn't cost taxpayers here any more money. West York Ambulance runs strictly on billing and donatons.
