Man Charged with Assaulting Officer and Arson in Lancaster County
CONOY TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY - A man remains in Lancaster County Prison after he allegedly ignites gas at a home and assaults a police officer.

Joseph Bartles, 35, of the 100 block of Elbow Alley in Bainbridge, faces charges of arson, causing or risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, aggravated assault on police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and public drunkeness in connection with the incident.

It started around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday when Bartles, who was highly intoxicated, went to a home along the 100 block of Market Street in Conoy Township, according to Susquehanna Regional Police. Bartles confronted several people he did not know in the home's basement, got into an argument, took the gas cap off a generator and knocked it down as he left, police add. Bartles then ignited the gas and fled the scene, police say.

Police say they found Bartles at his home and tasered him when he became combative. He then allegedly kicked an officer and injured himself when he banged his head inside a police vehicle.

Bartles was treated and released from the hospital for his injuries.
