FULTON TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY - Eight cows in Lancaster County were trapped after heavy snow collapsed the roof of a barn. The collapse happened around 5:30 Tuesday morning. An Amish farmer at 166 Rigby Road in Fulton Township heard a loud noise. When he went to investigate, he found a section of his barn, that house about 50 head of cattle, collapsed. Snow from an upper roof had slid down, fallen on to the section of roof, causing it to cave in.

Fire crews from Robert Fulton Fire Department, along with the Collapse Unit of Lancaster County, responded to the scene. They had to shore up the walls of the barn, before entering the building, and freeing the cows. None of the eight cows that were trapped sustained serious injuries.

No one, including firefighters or farmers, were injured in the incident. Chief Ray Glick of the Robert Fulton Fire Department says his company has not received too many calls for collapsing buildings, however, he anticipates that becoming a problem.

"We've got different calls as far as they are concern. With it warming up a little bit, the snow is getting heavier, so it is starting to be a concern," Glick said.

The rebuilding process has already begun. A group of Amish farmers came from nearby homes to lend a helping hand.
