CARROLL TOWNSHIP, PERRY COUNTY -
The Pennsylvania State Police in Perry County are investigating an attempted robbery that turned fatal at the Shermansdale Beer & Beverage located at 4946 Spring Rd, Carroll Twp, Perry County.
On January 2, 2010 at approximately 9:44 p.m., an alarm sounded at the Beer & Beverage Store, which was closed. An associate of the store arrived soon there after. The front door's glass was broken out.
The associate entered inside and confronted a male subject. A confrontation ensued and the associate shot the burglar once in the upper chest, with a pistol. The apparent burglar did have a weapon.
Perry County Coroner Michael Shalonis pronounced the intruder, 25-year old Jeffrey Thomas Harless, of New Bloomfield, dead at 10:55 p.m from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
This is an on going investigation, and police are not releasing the associates identity at this time.
