Funeral arrangements are being made for murder victim Kenneth Geiger, III. The 26 year old was killed Sunday night outside of his home in Hampden Township, Cumberland County. Geiger, who was still married, was dating 24 year old Ashley Miller of Lancaster County. Police say her estranged husband, 33 year old Ricky Miller, Jr. of East Earl Township, shot Geiger once in the head.
Just five days prior, on July 21st, Ashley Miller filed a temporary Protection from Abuse order against her husband in Lancaster County Court. In part, Ashley stated, "he needed hollow bullets to make brains go boom.. I fear for myself and my children at this point." The order was processed, but not served.
Lancaster County Sheriff, Terry Bergman says PFA's are a priority in his office, but currently, there are about 50 that need to be served. Priority is given according to court dates and the physical location of the defendant's address in the county. The order against Miller was slated to be served this past Monday, July 27.
Deb Donahue, Executive Director of Domestic Violence Services of Dauphin & Perry Counties says, "it's not untypical for reports of a batterer to say if I can't have you, nobody else will, he clearly made his point that he was going to make sure somebody else didn't and it's indeed unfortunate and very tragic and very sad."
Donahue sees situations similar to this on a regular basis and says, despite this violence, PFA's do work. Anyone who feels threatened in a relationship can contact their local Domestic Violence Services office. In Cumberland County, the hotline number is 1-800-852-2102 in Dauphin County, call 1-800-654-1211.
In addition to the PFA filed against Ricky Miller, an order was also active against the victim, Kenneth Geiger. It was filed in January, by his wife Kristen. Attempts to interview her were unsuccessful.
As of Wednesday evening, Ricky Miller was still in the Hershey Medical Center, recovering from injuries he sustained while on the run from police. He was captured Monday night, after falling off an oil tank in Hampden Township.
