LANCASTER -
Police in New Holland are investigating a shooting death of a 5 year-old boy.
Shortly after 4:30pm on Saturday police responded to 140 Fairmont Road in East Earl Twp., where they discovered the boy dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators have determined that the 5 year-old boy was fatally shot by a 6 year-old male who was playing with a gun.
Due to the circumstances of the death police are prohibited from discussing the investigation further, according to a news release.
The New Holland Police Department stated that this is an isolated incident and there is no reason for the public to be concerned. The shooting was not a random act, the release stated
The Lancaster County Coroner's Office and the District Attorney's Office are assisting in the investigation.
