LONDONDERRY TOWNSHIP, DAUPIN COUNTY—
The Three Mile Island Nuclear Power station shut down its unit one reactor on Monday capping off a record run. The unit one reactor broke the world record for the longest continuous days of operation for all pressurized water reactors.The Dauphin County based plant operated for 705 days before shutting down for a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage on Monday. The old record of 692 days was set earlier this year by a nuclear power plant in Maryland.
"We don't really set out to break world records, but they're a result of what we do, which is safe reliable operations every day. We are very proud of our people here.", Communications manager Ralph DeSantis proudly proclaimed.
The unit one reactors last refueling was in November of 2007. TMi is owned by Exelon Nuclear. There are more than 200 pressurized water nuclear reactors worldwide..
