The two people who were on board the plane were not hurt, according to New Jersey State Police.

The aircraft was being used by Metro Networks and was updating vehicular and truck traffic for KYW-AM and KWY-TV In Philadelphia, said Metro spokeswoman Christine Miller. The plane is registered to owner Out of the Blue Inc., of Wilmington Del.

Drivers had to use the left shoulder to get around the plane as a truck was brought in to move the aircraft to the side of the turnpike. Eventually, the truck towed the plane down the turnpike to an exit.

Rush hour traffic on the turnpike resumed with residual delays.
