PACIFIC, Mo. (AP) — A suspect has been charged with in the death of an eastern Missouri woman whose body was found in a trash bin.
Franklin County prosecutor Bob Parks said Wednesday that 37-year-old Vernell Loggins Jr. is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Stephanie Fields. She would have turned 26 on Wednesday.
Parks said Loggins used a knife to kill Fields, whose mutilated body was discovered Tuesday near an apartment complex in Pacific. Loggins was arrested that same evening.
A motive for the killing was unclear. The suspect and Fields were living together.
KSDK-TV reported that in a probable cause statement, police found loose ice cubes on top of the dismembered body that was stuffed in a trash can. The top of the trash can had been glued.
