This nationally recognized program in Dauphin County helps keep people with mental illness out of jail when they come in contact with a law enforcement officer

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A program in Dauphin County is helping keep people with mental illness out of jail, and pointing them in the direction of help.

The Stepping Up Initiative, involves assessing, referring and diverting people with mental health issues towards appropriate help.

The nationally recognized program, has more than 100 police, probation and corrections officers and co-responders in Dauphin County.
